Mr Kipling
The kindly old baker who makes exceedingly nice cakes first appeared in 1967, and instantly won the hearts of the country. By 1976 Mr Kipling was the market leader, baking favourites like Battenberg cakes and jam tarts.
Today, as a nation, we spend over £1.2 billion a year on pre-packed cakes. Nearly 130 million packs of those are Mr Kipling varieties, which you'll find in 50% of UK households.
Over 220,000 of our most famous cake, the Cherry Bakewell, are consumed every day!
With a range of slices, pies, tarts, mini cakes and cake bars, there's something for everyone, whatever the occasion - all maintaining the Mr Kipling tradition of high-quality ingredients for a deliciously tasty treat.
Responding to demand, Mr Kipling removed artificial colours and flavours from the complete range. The Mr Kipling 'Delightful' range also offers 'lighter' options - like Lemon, Chocolate and Apple Slices with 10% less fat, and Cherry Bakewells with 30% less fat than standard products.
Mr Kipling cakes are even exported to America, Australia, New Zealand, Europe, Canada and the Middle East.
The secret of our success, then as now, was attention to detail and an obsession with getting as close as possible to a home-made taste.
Recent additions to the Mr Kipling range including the low fat Delightful range, which has been voted 2008’s Healthy Eating Product of the Year and Mr Kipling Cake Bites.
